Nach dem Einzug ins WBV Pokalfinale haben wir die Gelegenheit genutzt, Captain Bryant Allen um ein Interview zu bitten. Dieser stand uns gut gelaunt wie eh und je Rede und Antwort und gab an der ein oder anderen Stelle nicht nur Statements zur aktuellen Miners Situation, sonder auch persönliche Einblicke zu seinen Zielen und wie er es schafft immer gut gelaunt zu sein.
Als am 5. August 2023 bekanntgegeben wurde, dass du Wulfen nach 5 Jahren verlässt und die neue Saison im Trikot der ETB Miners bestreiten wirst, war das für Essen ein Big Deal. Was hat es für dich persönlich bedeutet das Trikot nach so einer Zeit zu wechseln?
Bryant Allen:“When it was announced that I was leaving Wulfen and coming to Essen it meant for me a new opportunity, another opportunity to go and compete for a championship and possibly move up! My time with Wulfen was great but I felt it was time for something new and a serious opportunity for my career.“
Nach der Bekanntgabe deiner Verpflichtung war vielen Fans und supportern klar, dass du eine tragende Rolle im neuen Kader von Lars und Raffi tragen wirst, nämlich die des Captains. Vom Miners Kader der Saison 22/23 sind lediglich Dzemal, Nikita und Noah heute noch dabei. Wie wichtig war es für dich, dass zumindest 3 Spieler aus der Vorsaison weiterhin für Essen antreten und was bedeutet das für dich und deine Aufgabe als Captain?
Bryant Allen: „This was very important to me that these guys was still on the time because I felt they were the core of the team…these guys know the system and the culture here in Essen so it was easy for me to adjust and become comfortable early with them and the new pieces that we have on the team. This makes the job as a captain less stressful because you have these guys who’s been there and gave me a clear understanding.“
Vom FC Schalke 04 zum BSV Münsterland Baskets Wulfen zu den ETB Miners. Wie geht es für dich weiter? Würdest du für eine weitere Saison das Miners Trikot tragen? Ist die Pro B eine Liga, in der ein 34 jähriger Bryant Allen sich Zuhause fühlen kann?
Bryant Allen: „What’s next for me is I really would love to win the 1st Regionalliga and move up to Pro B. This is a dream of mines to always play in the 2nd Bundesliga. If the opportunity comes for me to play with Essen and if Essen accept me then yes I would forsure play again with this club.“
Man sieht dich immer gut gelaunt, mit einem großen Grinsen vor, nach und manchmal sogar während der Spiele. Was muss passieren, um dich mal schlecht gelaunt anzutreffen und welchen Tipp hast du um die meiste Zeit gut gelaunt durchs Leben zu spazieren?
Bryant Allen:“I always want to spread my positivity energy around…what has to happen to see me mad is I really hate losing! When we lose I don’t want to be bothered at all. I’m a sore loser lol. A tip I can give to walk through life happy is when you are blessed to wake up and continue to live life then you have every reason to be happy! Im so grateful and blessed that I am able to do what I love and that’s playing basketball. Im happy and grateful for my family, my kids, my woman. They make me happy and keeps me going in life!“
Wenn du rückblickend auf deine Basketball Karriere die Möglichkeit hättest etwas zu verändern, was wäre das?
Bryant Allen: „To be honest I wouldn’t change anything because everything I have went through with my career helped me grow more as a person on and off the court.“
Die Miners sind Zuhause bisher ungeschlagen, stehen im WBV Finale und zudem aktuell auf dem 1. Tabellenplatz der Liga. Wie schätzt du die Erfolgschancen der mannschaft im Pokalfinale und vor allem in Bezug auf die Playoffs ein?
Bryant Allen: „I believe we have a chance to win the cup and also make a strong push into the playoffs and win the league, but it will not be easy because we the 1st place team and we will get teams best game. The key to our success will be to stick together through the good times and the bad times. Allow our defense to win every game because it will be times when our offense isn’t working. Offense wins games but defense wins championships! We are in a good flow right now and there is always room for improvement.“
Gibt es noch etwas das du den Miners Fans mitteilen möchtest?
Bryant Allen: „To the fans please bring a friend or two to the games and pack the Hallo! You guys are a big part of our success and we need you all there cheering us on loud and proudly! We are one big family so we stick together and bring more energy to the home games!“
Ein großes Dankeschön an B.A. für den Einblick in seine Sichtweise auf die Geschehnisse und alles was noch kommen wird. Mit einem Captain, der ein solches mindest mitbringt sollte weiteren erfolgen auf dem Weg durch die Playoffs in die Pro B nichts im Wege stehen. Dennoch ist es für alle Beteiligten immer noch ein hartes Stück Arbeit in der Liga, im Pokal und darüberhinaus Spitzenleistungen als Team abzurufen.
Weiter geht es nämlich dieses Mal schon am Freitag den 16.2.24 um 20:15 Uhr in und gegen Haspe 70.
